Specializing in Niche Markets has never been as crucial as it is today. Long gone are the days when you can target general, broad markets and make money from them.
To make money in today's Internet Marketing environment, one must specialize in well defined niche topics.
Lets examine a few misconceptions when it comes to niche marketing.
Misconception #1: You do not have to be an expert in the Niche field you choose!
Everyone says you should only choose a Niche that you are an expert in...nonsense!
The Internet is so impersonal that you can easily appear as an expert and not know anything about that particular niche topic. The key is to appear as an expert. How? You can outsource, build niche sites with no interaction such as blogs, purchase resale rights to an ebook in a particular niche. You see, you can choose to profit from any niche you like.
Misconception #2: Choose one niche market and stick with it.
Not true! Once you establish yourself in one niche and develop a profitable system, choose another one and run with it. You can even choose a pen name if you like, it's common practice to do so.
Niche marketing is a numbers game. Once you find a profitable niche put it on auto-pilot and choose another niche market to get into.
Misconception #3: The best way to make money in the niche game is to promote niche products as an affiliate.
Wrong again! Sure, becoming an affiliate and promoting niche products can be very profitable, but if you are doing this, you're not maximizing your income.
You need to promote your own landing or squeeze page where you collect the e-mail address of the visitor, and then sending him or her to the niche product you are promoting. You should also send out an e-mail course with informative information pertaining to that particular niche market to gain the visitors trust. Since your subscriber now trusts you, you can recommend products in that niche again and again, knowing your recommendation holds a lot of weight.
Those are three popular misconceptions when it comes to niche marketing. Follow the tips above, and you will be more likely to succeed. Remember, it is important to find a profitable niche, set it up so it is on auto-pilot, then move on to the next niche.
Not all niche markets will be a slam dunk, so don't get discouraged.
Even if one out of ten become really profitable, sit down and smile, you've hit the jackpot.

What Is Niche Marketing

If you're thinking of starting a web based business or already have one up and running, one of your primary objectives is probably to make money. You know your competition is fierce. You may try every possible avenue of exposure, and come up with lots of visitors but not a lot of income. You've got the traffic, you've got the product, so what gives?
There is one question which embodies the secret to your success on the net. That question is, what is niche marketing?
One of the most common mistakes made by marketers is to believe that everyone wants his product. So many start out hoping to cash in on the millions of prospects, or end up waiting for months on end as their dreams fail to materialize.
Usually, there is one vital factor they failed to consider. This type of marketer typically is attempting to be a man for all seasons, everything to everyone. Sure, you're enthusiastic about your product, but are you reaching your audience? Is there an audience for you to reach? What is niche marketing? Again, the question.
Let's say you sell herbal products. You've got lots of content, great products and a beautiful website. The problem is, you're not making a living! So what's wrong with this picture? There are millions of herbal product sites out there – do a Google search on “herbal products” and see.
You'll need to target a very specific need within that audience – a need that is largely unmet, that has not been addressed – at least by only a few – that fulfills a specialized aspect of your business.
So now we have part of the answer to “what is niche marketing?”. Niche marketing is a strategy that seeks to have little, or ideally, no direct competition. That can be a tall order, but that's essentially your goal.
In the case of our herb products business, you need detailed demographics of people with a specific and difficult to satisfy need.
Which brings us to part two of the “what is niche marketing” question. In the U.S. alone, there are 50 million people with arthritis. That's a lot of potential customers. However, there are entire non-profit organizations devoted to this subject. That's not a niche!
However, let's say your personal specialty is essential oils. You can mix up a perfume or a medicinal ointment on a moment's notice.
Perhaps you have a niche here. How many other sites are specializing in custom ointments and perfumes? How many people are looking for such products? For the sake of argument, let's say there's a lot of interest and you don't see anyone specializing in this niche market. With some advertising in the right places, you'll have an eager following, willing to pay what your product is worth.
There, in a nutshell is the answer to that all important question – what is niche marketing? Don't go for the whole market. Go for a segment that is currently overlooked, their needs unmet.
